NOTD: Giles Deacon inspired!

I know I'm a bit behind with these but it hasn't been long since I really got into nail art. Looking through some nail art blogs and websites, I came across the Giles Deacon nails and wanted to try it out instantly.

I ordered some cool dotting tools from eBay for a few pounds which now enables me to do perfect round dots, instead of dodgy smudged ones. As soon as they came through the post this morning I decided to try them out and so I created the 'googly' eye look.

I opted for bright colours instead of a whole load of pastels as it's more fun that way!

Created using dotting tools, Models Own Slate Green, Nails Inc Victoria, Nails Inc Denim, Nails Inc Hampstead Heath, Nails Inc London, Barry M Matt White and 17 Pink Grapefruit.

I think they look rather cute and funky. Apart from the odd problem with the white polish, it didn't take very long at all, they also made me chuckle when they were poking over the top of my book last night as I was reading. :D

In Oceans - In Oceans EP

1. Less Chat More Rat
2. Kaleidoscopes
3. Sharks
4. Crooked
5. Mating Rituals

Review by Cherry Pullinger

As perfectly polished and frankly unforgettable releases are making their way into popular culture, a handful of bands are rebelling and creating a rougher and edgier DIY sound. In Oceans are a part of this tiny minority, having recently released their self titled debut EP.

Their DIY Punk aesthetic is frantic and sporadic. They crack out random melodies and the off chorus with ease and surround it with off-centre riffs, agitated crashing and almost anarchic beats. They aren't tracks that flow easily. It's safe to say that they're pretty difficult to sing-a-long to and I'm not sure how well they would hold up in a live environment, but if you ever feel the need for angsty, snapping rock, this EP is a must.

Alexa Chung in Christopher Kane Resort 2011 Empire Line Galaxy-Print Dress

I don't usually do these sorts of posts but after the Karen Gillan one not so long ago, I've developed a bit of a liking for them. They won't be too regular, just as and when I spot a Celeb in an outfit I completely adore!

Today I spotted this photo of Alexa Chung on the Red Carpet at the NME awards. She always always looks so stylish, so this was no exception, but I particularly LOVE the Christopher Kane Resort 2011 Empire Line Galaxy-Print Dress that she's wearing. The little hint of leather is pretty edgy and I love the cosmic blue and orange print on the skirt.

If I had money to burn, £965 to be precise, and I wasn't so afraid of wearing dresses, then this would be sitting in my wardrobe right now!

What do you all think?

Beauty Haul!

Ahead of my interview at River Island, I decided to pop into the store to see what sort of styles they are selling at the moment in case they ask me to pick out an outfit. Well I spent about two seconds in the shop gathering information and then decided to have a nosy in Boots...big mistake! I ended up spending most of my points and my money on a little beauty haul...

I've wanted the Maybelline Gel Liner for a little while but they didn't have it in store so had to pop to Superdrug and pick it up. I only had £7 worth of points on my Boots card so decided to pick up the Models Own polish in Juicy Jules as well as the Garnier products. I saw them recommended on MakeupSavvy.co.uk and when I went home at the weekend, I found them in mum's make up bag and used them over the weekend.

I have REALLY sensitive skin that is just getting worse and worse with age (note the lack of photos of my face on this blog), I can't tell if it's just spots or blemishes or a proper skin condition as it keeps appearing in the same places! I'll try the products out and let you know how I get on.

In the mean time, here is the Gel Liner and Nail Polish tried and tested...

Models Own Juicy Jules

The Juicy Jules polish is extremely popular but it takes quite a few layers to create this sparkly look and it's a bitch to remove!

I do love the sparkle though and every time you catch a glimpse of your sparkly nails, it makes you feel a bit cheerier!

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner 24H

Most of my make up bag consists of cheap cosmetics from places such as Superdrug and Boots as I can't afford fancy cosmetics from MAC and Benefit etc... I was hoping the product would be available in Boots so I could use my points up, but unfortunately it wasn't. In the end I found it in Superdrug for £5.99, which really isn't a bad price!

I was extremely impressed with this product. It's not long since I mastered liquid eyeliner and I usually swear by L'Oreal's SuperLiner, but this product really is something else. Although liquid eyeliners are simple to use, the Maybelline Gel Liner is even easier! The gel itself comes in a cute little glass post and is extremely soft and easy to work with. It took just 1 attempt to get the look right and the brush is really easy to use and hold. It says it lasts for 24 hours, which I'm always sceptical about; did they manage to stay awake for 24 hours while testing it? I don't think I'll be staying up that long.

I purchased the Intense Black colour which is very vibrant and from reading various reviews, it seems that you can use it on your eyelid as well as your waterline. It's great for creating smoky eye looks and intense sweeping styles.

I'm so glad I picked this product up, it's definitely going to be my favourite product from now on!

[Edit] I've been using the Garnier products for a few days now and they have turned my skin into a crime zone I swear. My face looks horrendous! I have the worst, most sensitive skin imaginable and the spot cream seamed to help a little but after using the moisturiser as well, it's just got even worse, redder and inflamed. I'm starting to wonder if it's your usual spots because it's been reappearing in the same places for about two years now, so I've booked an appointment with the doctor for next week! [/Edit]

Topshop Unique Autumn/Winter LFW 2011

So, I mentioned yesterday that I would be watching the Topshop Unique live stream and boy was I impressed!

The show kicked off with the 101 Dalmations Disney tune which was a real indication of what to come...Dalmation print galore! Dalmation print is not something you'd expect on the runways of LFW, but it worked so well.

There was a distinct Cruella De Vil theme with the faux fur coats and trim but it worked nicely with the knee high socks, lace tights and animal print chunky heels.

Elasticated cropped trousers in a variety of prints were kooky and fun and I loved the print party dresses and the tailored silk shirts. The runway models were all sporting smoky look eyes with cute painted dog noses and their hair styled to possibly represent dog ears.

I knew I'd love the Topshop Unique show, so I was really not disappointed. Some of the pieces are particularly wearable if you think you can pull of Dalmation print. Leopard print jumpsuits, midi skirts and cropped trousers are still going strong and the white lace tights reminded me of the socks I used to wear to school as a child.

When I was younger I sported an animal print fur coat and now I wish I'd kept it as the Cruella De Vil trend is definitely coming back!

Jonathan Saunders Autumn/Winter LFW 2011

I'm trying to keep up to speed with all the shows that are going on at LFW this week and I feel like I'm a part of it, if only in a virtual sense. I'm going to be checking out the live stream of the Topshop Unique show in just under half an hour...so there's just enough time to write out a post about my favourite show from day 2 of LFW...Jonathan Saunders A/W 11.

This collection is similar to the Paul Costelloe one from Day 1 as in all of the pieces are completely wearable, and that is what really stands out to me in a show. If I can imagine people in the street wearing these pieces, then they are a definite hit for me. The Jonathan Saunders Autumn/Winter collection for 2011 is full of mid length, below the knee skirts and dresses in elongated silhouettes.

Silk blouses and chiffon shirts and skirts were hugely dominant in the show. The chiffon dresses are a particular favourite of mine, great for autumn days, teamed with tights and heels.

The chiffon blouse trend is also continuing with an extra element of detail and I'm loving the contrasting colours and patterns. Silk shirts with sharp collars look bright and cheerful with a smart skirt and heels.

Deep Wine and blue coloured coats allow brightly coloured skirts to add oomph to the outfit and cinched in waists and empire lines give some much needed definition.

Paul Costelloe Autumn/Winter LFW 2011

Unfortunately, I'm not lucky enough to witness any of the fabulous London Fashion Week this year, but I still feel very much part of the action thanks to the constant Twitter updates and fashion websites that are streaming some of the shows.

One show in particular caught my eye yesterday after browsing through some catwalk photos. Paul Costelloe's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection looks like so much fun while still being completely wearable!

I love the various coloured tweeds and plaids as well as the subtle colour pops. The winter coats look luxuriously cosy and the dresses and skirts are perfect casual pieces. I love the use of coloured metallics and skater skirts and I'm predicting that this collection is one that the British high street will recreate to within an inch of it's life.

And who doesn't love the bright red wigs?

NOTD featuring Models Own - Purple Grey!

The majority of my nail polish bag is made up from Barry M polishes, and they've been a favourite of mine for quite a while, but after discovering that most of them go gloopy and discusting after a while, I have a new favourite. That favourite is of course, Models Own. I bloody love their polishes and although I don't have many, I am aiming to build up quite a collection.

The one I absolutely love at the moment is Purple Grey and it's featuring as my NOTD alongside some cute rhinestones. I purchased a 'wheel' of 2400 Rhinestones from eBay for just £1, which is a bit of a bargain! The only problem is, there doesn't look like there's 2400, but I'm not about to sit and count them.

The past few days have been a bit hectic! Our drains at our house in Southampton have overflowed all over our alleyway, which is not a pleasant site I must say, and the Landlord is threatening to charge us because he thinks we've been stuffing ridiculous items down there. So there's been lots of arguing with him and of course we're all on edge, waiting for the drain to explode or something.

We've decided to come home for the weekend. It was pretty last minute as Vince has ordered a new phone and the only place that it could be delivered was to his home address, so we've had to come and pick it up. I don't mind too much because it means free meals and warmth for the weekend, plus, the phone comes with a free Playstation 3 which Vince is keeping AND he's giving me the phone, woo! The phone is an HTC Wildfire with touchscreen and all that jazz and I'm quite looking forward to getting it, but it means bye bye Blackberry!

Hair experiment #1 - The fishtail plait

Yes, I know the fishtail plait/braid is nothing new, but for me it is! I always always always wear my hair down because I'm just so lazy, but recently I've been trying to experiment with more hair styles.

My hair has become so long and lank and it's just basically doing my head in at the moment (irony alert!). All of the layers have pretty much grown out and it's just straight and boring. I'm not a fan of wearing my hair up in a ponytail so I've been trying out curling, plaiting and side ponytails quite a bit recently!

After watching a bunch of tutorial videos, I finally managed to complete my first fishtail plait! Hooray! It took quite a few efforts to get this and I got in a mood with it quite a lot, but finally here it is. I know it's messy and not perfect but I'm proud because it took me such a long time to master. Practice makes perfect!

*I apologise for the quality of these images as they were taken on my Laptop's Web Cam which has super high contrast for some reason!

Thank you to Youtube user: bebexo!

P.S, I found out I didn't get the job at Hotel Chocolat. Apparently they went with someone who had better qualifications in handing out free samples of chocolate and greeting customers. (Bitter, me?) I do however have an interview next week with River Island. Has anyone else ever had a River Island interview? What can I expect?

Happy Valentines Day!

A Valentines inspired NOTD for you today using Nails Inc in Hampstead Heath and Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliner. One day it would be nice to be able to buy a bottle of Nails Inc from the site instead of relying on freebies from magazines and Diet Coke offers!

This year Vince and I have decided not to do anything too special. Because neither of us have any money, we haven't brought extravagant presents for each other and we're not planning on going out for an overpriced meal. (One year our meal came to £80!) Instead we've just got each other cards and we're celebrating with a Chinese takeaway!

I've actually been thinking about Valentines over the past few days, wondering why we all have to celebrate on a day that has no meaning to us. Of course it's nice to show your love and appreciation to each other and nobody doesn't like receiving gifts, but I think I'd prefer to 'celebrate' on the actual anniversary of when we got together as at least that means something special to us.
