Cherry Pie : My reading list

My reading list

I hate myself at the moment. I'm going through a bit of a phase of not reading, which is really unlike me. Usually I'm always reading but recently I just haven't. I started 'The Perks of being a Wallflower' but I've not really enjoyed it and have left it half read for so long.

At the beginning of the year I popped into Waterstones and bought all of the above books (apart from Revenge Wears Prada) but since then they've just sat on my bookshelf gathering dust. Revenge Wears Prada has sat on my bookshelf for about two weeks too so I need to make more of an effort to get through this reading list and would love to hear all of your recommendations!

  10. Although it's a shame you haven't been reading so much, it is always nice to hear that I'm not the only one who didn't love Perks! Silver Linings and Hunger Games are both quick reads in a page-turner sort of way so maybe try one of those next instead? Game Of Thrones was a bit of a disappointment for me - plus its HUGE - so I wouldn't suggest that one to get you out of a reading slump! I hope you manage to find a way to get reading again soon.

If you ever want to write a book review for us over at Blogger's Bookshelf we'd love to have you :) x

  12. I've been the same lately. I've picked up The Night Circus a load of times but I just can't get in to it.
I think I might re-read a couple of old favourites then start a new book. It shouldn't feel like a chore to read!

  13. I love book related posts! I've been reading a hell of a lot more too recently to make my what seems never endless book shelf go down. There's nothing better than getting absorbed into a good book! xo

  14. Life of Pi is a fantastic book! The first 100 pages are a bit of a struggle, but keep reading! It gets so after that! The ambiguity of the ending is really thought-provoking too. -x-

  15. I havent been reading much lately either :( Sometimes I just dont feel like it for a few weeks but I have bookclub on Wednesday night and still havent finished the book so will have to get cracking over the next few days. The Hunger Games is one of my fave series, hope you enjoy it.

  16. I've recently started reading the devil wears prada and like it although I don't find it really engaging, hopefully it'll get more interesting if I read a bit more. I was reading the game of thrones series too but after reading a couple books, then watching all the tv series, I felt I needed a break from it xx

    Pretty Wonderful

  17. I'm the same, I adore reading but have neglected it for far too long! I'm currently half way through A Game of Thrones and I'm enjoying it! I'd also recommend Wool by Hugh Howey too; it's a little different and definitely worth a read

  18. I guess this comment is a little late, but I couldn't recommend Game of Thrones with enough enthusiasm! I see a few others saying they lost interest, but I couldn't put it down. I've read all of the books in the series A Song of Ice and Fire that are currently out and am now eagerly awaiting book 6, "The Winds of Winter". I finished all of them through a single year; that's how hard they were to put down! George R. R. Martin is an amazing writer and his books are some of the best that I've ever read, and I read way too much. While the television series is wonderful too(and follows the book story pretty closely), nothing can beat a great book. If you have the patience to read through some slower parts, you'll be rewarded with a great read. "A Game of Thrones" is the first book in a long series, so keep in mind that Mr. Martin is trying to flesh out a huge world with lush history for you, which means there's a lot of description and backstory needing to be explained.
The Hunger Games is another great series. Though it is for "teens", it's a pretty violent read. The story is very interesting, the characters draw you in, and the ending of the series is very satisfying. Mrs. Collins is also a very gifted writer. You'll have a LOT of trouble putting this series down, especially since all 3 books are fairly short reads.
I can't speak for any of the other books(I personally found Perks to be an extremely boring/annoying movie, so I doubt I'll like the book either), but I can tell you Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games will keep you very occupied.

  19. Oh! I meant to add that, if you end up liking Game of Thrones(or just love fantasy books in general), you'll probably love the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. It's another huge series(about 17 books, all at least 500 pages, except for 2 smaller side books), but they are AMAZING. The first book is called "Wizard's First Rule". It has romance, comedy, magic, dragons, fighting, politics, mystery... It seriously has about everything you could possibly want in a book.
