Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Mini Brush Sets and Giveaway

I do love receiving a package from Makeup Revolution and when these three mini brush kits dropped through the letterbox, or to be more accurate, were pushed through the cat flap, I thought they were super fun, bright and cheerful, just what we need what with all this rubbish weather at the moment.

There are three kits to choose from, the green/turquoise Mermaid Forever, the purple Unicorns Unite and the Pink Diamonds set. Each one comes with three miniature brushes for eyes, lips and cheeks, all with diamond-esque handles.

Not only are these super pretty but the brushes themselves are super soft and perfect for taking with you on any journeys or travelling you might be doing. The slanted lip brush could also be used as an eyeliner brush so the kit really does have everything you need.

For £5 these are really reasonable and would make great stocking fillers or Secret Santa gifts this Christmas. My favourite has got to be the green/turquoise shade kit so I'll be keeping that one in my collection but I've decided to give away the purple Unicorns Unite brush kit, just follow the rules below.

Makeup Revolution I Heart Chocolate Pink Fizz Eyeshadow Palette

Back at the beginning of the year I was absolutely raving about Makeup Revolution's Naked Chocolate palette. It was full of gorgeous shades and it had a slight chocolatey whiff about it as well. I was devastated when I accidently broke the hinge but carried on using it until I think I left it in a hotel room, argh! I did order another one to replace it and love it just as much! When the brand released a couple of new palettes recently, including the Pink Fizz palette, I knew it would be pretty fab!

I was very kindly sent the Pink Fizz palette and on first impressions it's not a palette I would usually go for shade wise. I usually go for neutrals/browns/nudes etc but Pink Fizz is full of super shimmering and matte pinks/golds as well as a couple of browns. I was immediately drawn to the brown shades of course but to change things up a bit I have been experimenting with the prosecco pink fizzy sort of shades and actually really like them.

They're super pigmented and blendable and perfect for the upcoming party season. I would have liked it to come with a better brush as I don't think anyone is keen on those horrible eyeshadow sponges but other than that I'm super impressed with this palette. The shades stay put all day and I think they'll suit anyone! You probably won't find any pink eyeshadows in my collection so this palette is staying firmly part of it now and I'll be whipping it out this New Year.

Makeup Revolution New-trals vs Neutrals Palette

There's a really fine line between a berry/autumn eye look and looking like Gerard Way from the Three Cheers era. It's all about the autumnal eye make-up look at the moment so I thought I'd give Makeup Revolution's much hyped New-trals vs Neutrals Palette a go as everyone else seemed to be raving about it so much.

As much as I still love MCR to this day, I'm keen to not go down the red/pink eye look and I think the key to this is to use more plum/berry tones than red/pink ones. The New-trals vs Neutrals Palette does have a couple of red/pink shades but they can be toned down by using some of the darker plum/berry shades. For this finished look I went for a mix of the red and pink with the shimmery deep purple, a couple of the taupe shades for the base and the copper glitter all over. In my opinion I think it's a good berry look without leaning too much on the 'been punched in the eye' side.

Each shade in the palette is super pigmented and blendable. There's a good range as well from very basic bases right through to the super glittery copper. It's a nice change from my usual neutral palettes, which are all different shades of brown, the go-to neutral these days is a more plummy tone but I rather like it. I think it works especially well on brunettes but I could be bias.

For £6.99 the palette is a right little bargain! The shades have fab staying power as well so you really get your money's worth here.

Makeup Revolution Unicorns Unite Lipsticks

What a magical little collection from Makeup Revolution, just in time for Halloween too. This reminds me a lot of the Atomic Lipstick Collection, which came out around this time last year, but version 2.0 is much more sparkly, metallic and Unicorn-esque, hence the name.

The red shade is definitely the most wearable on every day occasions and great for a vampy look this Hallows Eve but the others are extremely fun colours, perfect for any 'out there' Halloween looks you might be doing. Legend and Throne are very similar, shimmery purple shades, while Magical is a deep blue shimmer. Horn of Magic is by far my favourite. It is a gorgeous turquoise/green and probably the most Unicorn-esque of the lot in my opinion - it would be great for any witchy Halloween looks but it also has an almost icey look to it after application, so perfect for any 'Frozen' fans.

I really don't usually like swatch photos on hands or arms but I'm not able to post pictures of these on my lips as my lips are incredibly dry and cracked/bleeding at the moment so no-one wants to see that. I have given them a good go though and once on the lips their shimmer factor doubles and the pigmentation is great. They do need a little building to fully cover the lip and re-application throughout the time you're wearing them but overall a really great range.

As I mentioned the red is the most wearable shade but the others are perfect for picking up if you're putting a Halloween look together this year. What's even better is that they're only £1 each, so a real bargain.

Battle of the corrector palettes - Makeup Revolution Ultra Base Corrector vs Freedom Makeup Pro Correct

I'm not sure if it was intentional but these two products from Makeup Revolution and Freedom Makeup seemed to be released at similar times. They do similar things and contain similar colours for correcting so I wanted to see if there were any differences between them when it came to use and how they worked.

At £6, the Makeup Revolution palette offers eight different shades for all your correcting needs. The pinks brighten, lavender neutralises yellow tones, green neutralises redness while the orange neutralises blue tones. The peach will help balance discolouration and the white adds a natural highlight as well as brightens. The cream covers dark areas and the brown balances ashiness in medium to darker skin tones.

The colours I'm mainly interested in are the green, white, peach and cream. There are a few too many peachy colours for me and the description of a brown shade isn't too accurate, as it's more of a dark peach.

The £5 Freedom Makeup palette contains six shades. The product description on the website doesn't actually tell you which colour does what and I can't see it on the packaging anywhere either so for a normal, non-blogger person, this might be a bit confusing. I'm following along the same lines as the Makeup Rev palette and assuming the shades do the same things.

I'm not usually too keen on creamy palettes like these as they tend to pick up odd little bits of fluff and hairs from the brush, making them look very unappealing. I would prefer if the palettes came with proper concealer brushes too as nothing from my own stash really worked.

My skin isn't the best at holding foundation as it is. I usually have to use a VERY light layer otherwise it ends up drying and going crumbly so I was hesitant about using these correctors under my foundation. I was hoping they'd conceal and correct nicely and that my foundation would sit on top looking smooth and lovely but alas, it did not! The shades from both palettes didn't sit too well with my foundation and I found them difficult to blend. In particular the green, which was still showing through as I put such a light layer of foundation on. For someone with a lot of redness, that's not great. I also found that the dark under my eyes wasn't really covered either so was a little disappointed.

Personally I think the products are pretty much the same but in different packaging, the brands are sister brands after all and made by the same people. I've read lots of positive reviews all over the net recently so just because they didn't work too well on me, doesn't mean they won't on other people. I personally think they work better under a heavier layer of foundation than what I use.

When it comes to comparing the palettes, it's difficult to choose an overall winner. For the £6 palette you do get more shades but the £5 one still has pretty much everything you need. The Freedom palette would fit nicely in a small make-up bag or your handbag so if I was to go into a shop and buy either one, it would probably be the Freedom one because of this very reason.

I will soldier on with the palettes and see if I can get them to work for me. I will report back.

Makeup Revolution Pro Go Brush Set

I didn't know I needed a mini brush set until the new Pro Go set from Makeup Revolution came through my letter box. This year I'm off to a hen do and also a wedding and I didn't think about the amount of stuff I'm going to have to take. I don't really want to take lots of make-up brushes as they'll no doubt get damaged and dirty so a mini set like this one seems ideal!

The set comes with four brushes, a mini foundation brush, mini face/powder brush, mini eyeshadow brush and a mini angled brush for your eyeliner or brows. So, pretty much every brush you need right? They also come in a cute little pouch, which makes them perfect for popping in your make-up bag and keeps them well protected.

The brushes are super soft too and made from fine synthetic hair. For £4.95 you can't really go wrong. This set is absolutely perfect if you're off on your travels this year.

One year into the revolution

On Saturday Makeup Revolution celebrated its 1st birthday. Can you believe it? Over the past year the brand has really revolutionised the high street make-up scene and has become one of my favourite brands to use, work with and write about.

The range of products has gone from strength to strength and its created so many dupes for higher end brands as well as producing its own unique items. My bedroom is currently full of Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palettes, which are my absolute favourites and which I use on a daily basis. Not only are the products really great but they're super affordable aswell, perfect for people of all ages to pop in their baskets.

The brand is also super sociable and in touch with lots of bloggers. As a blogger I do have some contact with PRs and brands but none of them are as personal as Makeup Revolution. I don't know about other bloggers but there aren't many brands that just send me products at random, this one does, so it's really nice to know me and my little old blog are actually being thought about. I received the delicious cake pops (above) in the post on Saturday as well as a hand-written note to help celebrate the brand's birthday and it was just lovely to know that the people behind the brand thought it was worth celebrating with me of all people! To other bloggers this is probably a common thing but I've not found any other brand as friendly and helpful as this one. It really feels like there's personality behind the social media accounts and I really enjoy interacting with them.

So with that I wanted to dedicate a post to the brand and wish it a happy birthday, here's to many more!

Makeup Revolution Black Velvet Palette

Just when I think Makeup Revolution can't possibly bring out another eyeshadow palette, it goes and brings out its Black Velvet palette, which is not only full of beautiful eyeshadows but the packaging itself is covered in its namesake, with a jeweled heart for decoration. Unfortunately it was a bit tricky to photograph so I'll leave it to your imagination!

Now down to business. The palette is full of 13 matte nudes and neutrals and 3 glitzy shimmer shades and once again it feels like the palette is tailored exactly to my tastes as these are so my sort of colours. While I've created a pretty nude/brown eye look, I do rather love the deep plum and grey shades - these are perfect for creating a more glamorous look.

The shades are really lovely to apply and there's very little fall out, which I'm really pleased about. They blend really nicely with each other and there's a shade for your every need, whether it's a day time look you're creating or something more glitzy. The shadows have great staying power too and remain in tact throughout the day.

The Black Velvet palette has gone straight into my pile of everyday palettes. For £7.99 it's extremely affordable and definitely one all makeup lovers need in their stash.

Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers

Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers - £3 each*



Yet another great product from Makeup Revolution. I am a HUGE, huge fan of the brands eyeshadow palettes but I was recently sent the new shades of the Salvation Intense Lip Lacquers and thought I'd give them a whirl.

I think 2015 is the year I embrace more colour on my lips. I'm not usually one for wearing any colour at all and am usually just happy slicking on some lip balm but I'm starting to appreciate how good a bit of colour can make you look and feel.

The new shades in the range include the deep, pink Rebel, bold purple Depravity, the barbie pink Paparazzi and the nude Barely There, which has got to be my fave. The coloured lip lacquers are really bold and intense and they apply really smoothly too. They're are a cross between a gloss and a lipstick but they're completely non-sticky and last a good couple of hours before needing re-application.

Barely There is possibly my favourite shade from the new releases. It feels very safe for me to wear and is perfect for every day looks. I've decided to host a little giveaway for the rest of the shades so someone a little bit more daring with colour can appreciate them. Read on lippy lovers...

Makeup Revolution Naked Chocolate Palette

As Makeup Revolution palettes go, this one has got to be my favourite! Not only does it actually look like a real white chocolate bar but the shades within it are all completely my sort of shades. There's 16 in total and they range from great base shades, to highlighter shades and onto golds/coppers and darker smokey browns in a lovely mixture of matte and shimmers.

There's just so much to choose from with this palette. To create the look above I used the lighter shades 'Smoothly' and 'Way' and blended them with a couple of shimmers 'Mocha Lover' and 'Frosted Choc', finishing off with 'Delight' and 'Sweet Shop'. They all blend wonderfully together and there's very little fall out - something I've become much more aware of since getting contact lenses. They also have brilliant staying power and last for most of the day.

The Naked Chocolate Palette* is just £7.99, which is really very reasonable for such great colour and pigmentation pay off. It's perfect for creating every day looks or using it to create something a little more glamorous for a night out.

This has quickly become one of my go-to palettes and is supposedly a great dupe for the Too Faced palette, but unfortunately I don't have it to compare.
